Tree Establishment Team Member

About The Role:

Our Tree Establishment team are on the frontline, directly contributing to Council’s tree canopy improvement strategy.  Our team members plant trees during the cooler months, and water for establishment during the warmer seasons. 

In this role you will undertake tree planting, watering, and small tree maintenance across Council’s parks, gardens, and streetscapes, ensuring Council standards are maintained. 

The role also involves the safe operation and care of arboriculture equipment, maintaining accurate manual and digital records, and contributing to a broader team approach by supporting other work groups as required.

• In the watering season, the hours of work are Monday to Friday, 12pm – 7pm with other conditions as outlined in our Enterprise Agreement.
• In the planting season, the hours of work are based on a 9-day fortnight, working 6.30am to 3.30pm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out arboriculture duties including street tree watering, tree planting, and small tree maintenance
• Operate arboriculture equipment safely and ensure proper care and maintenance
• Maintain accurate records (timesheets, work forms, delivery dockets, contractor paperwork, Traffic Management Plans)
• Operate electronic devices for data entry, reporting, or communication
• Communicate with members of the public and service providers in a friendly and polite manner.
  
  

About You:

At a minimum, candidates are required to hold the following:

• MR truck licence and white card (Essential)
• Certificate 3 in Arboriculture / Horticulture or demonstrated equivalent experience (Essential)
• Experience in arboriculture duties and maintenance, including safe operation of plant and equipment
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to contribute positively to a team environment
• Sound literacy and numeracy skills for record keeping
• Sound knowledge of arboriculture practices, tree identification, and risk management.

About Our Team:

City Maintenance are equipped to care for open spaces in our beaches, reserves and parks, ensuring they are maintained and up to standard. This diverse portfolio is passionate and skilled in areas including property management and repair, irrigation, biodiversity, arboriculture, trees and sports turf, as well as program scheduling.

The Trees and Irrigation team is responsible for the development, enhancement and maintenance of trees and streetscapes, recreational reserves and sporting grounds. The team manage programmed and reactive work that involves detailed street tree pruning and care, and quality irrigation systems for attractive landscapes.  

The Detail:

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and is classified at ME5, with a starting salary of $75,209.57 per annum + Super.  The benefits of joining the City of Charles Sturt also include:
